IPL Hair Reduction

What is IPL Hair Reduction?

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatments for hair removal uses specific wavelengths of light energy. The light energy converts to heat energy and is absorbed by the target (melanin) in the hair follicle which loosens the hair and disables the cells responsible for growing new hair. IPL is able to treat thousands of hair follicles at once.

Is the treatment safe?

The IPL system is able to deliver light energy to the skin and hair in a gentle way. The IPL hand piece has refrigerated technology built into the system, cooling the skin during the treatment, allowing for a premium result, comfort and protection.
Our IPL Technician has a level of experience necessary to prevent problems associated with the use of laser and IPL technology from occurring.

Does the treatment hurt?

Most clients find the treatments very tolerable, with minimal discomfort. Cooling devices on the tip of the device cool the skin on contact, protecting the skin while directing the light energy to the target. Recovery is rapid and clients may return to normal activity straight after treatment.

How many treatments do I need?

Depending on the area you will need 6-10 treatments for permanent hair reduction. IPL only works on ‘growing hair’ or the Anagen stage, consequently to obtain the best results multiple treatments are required. Because hair grows at different rates in different areas your anti-aging practitioner will advise you the correct timing between treatments.

Is IPL permanent?

There is no such thing as completely permanent hair removal with any machine or any type of treatment. Each person’s hair growth pattern is different and is affected by many known and unknown factors, mostly hormonal influences. IPL will cause a dramatic and permanent hair reduction, with remaining hair re-growth becoming finer and lighter.
However, most people who complete a course of treatments will find they get an extremely effective hair reduction during the course and very little hair re-growth following. Some people get complete hair reduction with no re-growth and others will require regular maintenance treatments once a year or so.

Do I need to let my hair grow to a certain length before I can get treated?

No, not at all! As long as the hair is present in the hair follicle itself, there is no need to have the hair showing past the skin’s surface. You can remove excess hair from the surface of the skin by shaving, cutting or using a depilatory cream between treatments.

You should not, however, remove hair by waxing, tweezing, “epilady-ing” or any similar methods. IPL penetrates beneath the skin’s surface to reach and destroy the hair bulb at the base of the hair follicle so you don’t want it damaged prior to treatment.
